SCHOOL ACTIVITIES THAT END LATE

Due to the tremendous participation in sports and cultural activities, we are forced to coach certain sports in sessions, which means that children are still busy at school until fairly late in the afternoon. If parents or a learner's transport is late, and he/she becomes anxious, the following arrangements apply:

  • If an emergency occurs before 15:30 the learner can go to Reception to call from there.
  • If an emergency occurs after 15:30 he/she may go to Aftercare to make a telephone call. If the learner then needs to stay there until Aftercare closes, an ad hoc fee will be charged. Aftercare closes daily at 17:30.
  • All exterior doors are closed daily at 14:15.
  • The subway closes at 14:30 during the week.

School hours and safety

The accuracy of the electronic school bell may be affected by power outages. The following applies to Terms 1 and 4. During Terms 2 and 3 it is sometimes still quite dark in the morning and small adjustments will be made regarding movement on the school grounds. Learners can gain access to the school grounds at 06:45 (earliest), only through the main gate in Weyers Avenue. This is controlled access by one of our support staff. These learners move directly to the school hall where they are supervised by further support staff until 07:00.

  • Durbanville Primary School's subway and pedestrian gate are unlocked at 07:00. The official school day starts at 07:50.
  • Duty personnel are deployed to the various play areas from 07:00.
  • All learners move directly to their playground at 07:00.
  • Learners who walk may only cross the road at the scholar patrol crossings (Weyers Avenue and Van der Byl Avenue).
  • No learner may ever cross Durban Road. ONLY use the subway.

Controlled access

Visitors to the school

  • Access to the school is only possible via the pedestrian gate in Weyers Avenue.
  • Access is controlled to ensure the safety of the learners and staff.
  • Press the bell at the pedestrian gate; the secretary will grant access.
  • Visitors are requested to report to Reception at all times, where they will receive a visitor’s sticker.
  • To exit the school grounds: press the bell at the pedestrian gate and the secretary will open the gate.
  • Only staff members and authorized persons have remote controls for the main gate.
  • An electronic vehicle gate (Gate 7) between the school and Durbieland Nursery School offers controlled access only to staff.
  • Parents/visitors may ONLY park in any parking spaces indicated in WHITE around the church and school. Parking on the YELLOW AND RED ZONES is PROHIBITED.
  • Teachers may not be visited in their classrooms during school hours. However, parents are encouraged to contact Reception or send an email to the teacher as we believe in active parental involvement
